Announcing Mizuu – version 2.0

Almost a year after the last update for the stable version of Mizuu, I’m now proud to announce that version 2.0 of Mizuu is available on Google Play. A lot of hard work has gone into this update, and it’s pretty much a complete re-write of the application.

Many of you have been using the nightly builds and the beta versions from Google Play, and you will have found most of the new features and changes to Mizuu. For those of you who have remained on version, it’ll be a completely new experience – and hopefully an experience, that you’ll find much better than the old one.

The update contains hundreds – if not thousands – of changes, ranging from minor to very large ones. Here are some of the highlights:

  • A completely new visual style
  • Added support for network devices using Samba (CIFS/SMB protocol)
  • Added support for Android 4.1+ and leveraged many of the new possibilities
  • Added experimental support for Google TV devices
  • More – and better – widgets
  • Significantly increased the speed and accuracy of movie and TV show updates

Remember, these are just some of the many changes. I can imagine many people will be able to spend a long time going through all the new stuff.

If you’re upgrading from a previous version of Mizuu, please note that this update will remove all your data. I know that it’s not optimal, but the update contains a bunch of changes and you’ll get a much better experience by “starting fresh”. Besides, both the movie and TV show update processes are much faster now.

I realize that updating Mizuu once a year isn’t really a great option, and I’m sorry about it taking so long. Going forward, I’ll be aiming at releasing fairly large updates each month. Partly because I don’t want to spam anyone with updates every day and partly because I want users to be excited when there’s a new release.

If something is buggy, I’ll of course try to patch up the bugs and fix any errors. As always, please do report bugs and crashes. The update has been a long time coming and it’s been beta tested for quite some time as well, but it’s practically impossible to get rid of all bugs, so please let me know.

There’ll be quite a few changes to the website in the coming days. I’ve been working on creating a series of quick guides that’ll show you how to do some of the fundamental things in Mizuu. Also, as you might have noticed, the frontpage has received a bit of a make-over. Let me know what you think of it.

Currently, the paid version has been updated and the free version is going online in a few hours as well. The paid version is on sale for just $0.99, so get it while it’s hot!
