More focus on backdrops

A change in the upcoming update is that Mizuu will automatically download the most popular backdrop image to your device along with the cover art image, if such a backdrop image is available.

The next update will put more focus on backdrop images, especially on smartphones where the details view will show just the backdrop image and not the cover art image. If no backdrop image is available, it’ll still show the cover art image, but that naturally won’t look quite as good.

Here are a few screenshots of what the movie details view looks like on a tablet and a smartphone:

PS. It’ll of course be available as a setting as well, so you can turn it off, if you don’t want Mizuu to download backdrop images. It’s highly recommended though and backdrop images don’t take up much storage space.

PPS. Notice that “eye icon”?ย That’s a drop-down to mark movies as watched or to add them to the Watch list. Do you think it should be visible at all time or should it be accessible from the overflow menu?

  1. Where are you fetching the backdrops from? I’ve seen a few that would make good wallpapers outside of Mizuu!

    • Hey Jason! Mizuu uses themoviedb.org for movie backdrops and thetvdb.com for TV shows.

  2. I think the ‘eye’ icon should be viewable in the movie list and detail page. Example, there are movies with the same name that at times I’m not sure which I have seen till reading it’s details.

  3. Hi Michell,

Good stuff on the redesign and I am too waiting for this next release and hopefully network streaming soon.

I had a suggestion, I like the play button on the cover image or the backdrop image for the phone version, but this blocks the view of the cover image. Would it be possible and better if the play button was at the bottom of the cover/backdrop?

I’d even go with making it similar to the actionbar (semi-transparent match_parent width). This way the button wouldn’t take up or cover any of the image and you would still be able to see the cover/backdrop through it because it is semi-transparent.

    Hope you like this suggestion?
