What do you think of this?

I’ve spent most of the evening and night playing around with something that I was considering adding to Mizuu. I think the current “launcher” – the screen with Movies, TV shows and Web videos, is a bit boring and plain, so I was thinking about how I could spice things up. Here’s a video of what I came up with.

Here’s a screenshot of the same thing:

I really like the idea of having an interactive “launcher” with the user’s content. I’m just not quite satisfied with this one. It doesn’t feel right. What do you think? Please feel free to say whatever you think – I won’t be offended. I’m just looking for feedback on some ideas.

  1. Generally it looks good but I don’t like how it cuts off some parts of the movie posters. Works better for tv shows. How about if the movie posters (and TV posters for that matter) floated around within the box space you have assigned to them. That way you’d see both the name of the movie and all the characters, at least part of the time.

    Keep up the great work!

    • Totally agree. I would also much rather have them do that, but it’s sadly not possible 🙁

I’m going to put this one on the shelf for now, and go back to the regular one. This one has too many disadvantages to upweigh the advantages.

  2. Just to understand: is this the actual first screen of the app when opened, or is it a widget? Im a little bit confused because I still see your google earth background…

    • It’s just a concept, but the idea was for it to be the screen that comes right after the splash screen. The web videos image was just a placeholder 🙂

  3. The concept of it is very good, but I have a few suggestions:
    1. Slow down the transition, it seems to be changing too sharply
    2. Instead of having a globe for web videos, why not have it so it shows the top videos?

Other than that, great idea 😛

    • I haven’t given up entirely, but right now it’s not good enough 🙂

      1. Yep, that would be done. Just didn’t want to sit and wait when developing it 🙂
      2. A potential final version would do that.

The big issue is what happens if the user doesn’t have enough content to fill out the space? Or what if there’s no internet connection? Those are the two main issues right now.
