The widget changes came quite some time ago. Back in March actually.
And no, the widgets weren't perfect by any means. The problem with the old widgets is that they were incredibly limited and they didn't scale at all, so I'm afraid I'm not going to add them back. If you changed the size of the widgets, they'd look messed up and pixelated. Have a look at this video and you'll see what I mean regarding scale. They only looked good on some devices, and unfortunately I'm developing Mizuu for more than just some devices.
Also, it was impossible for me to update the widgets in code when the library was updated. That could result in movies being shown that weren't even in the library any more.
When developing Mizuu, I'm developing for stock Android, i.e. a stock launcher as well. I'm always looking to use the latest and greatest features of Android and scrollable widgets is one of them. It's really not my fault that ADW doesn't support scrollable widgets, but I'll be happy to refund your purchase despite that.
