Here’s a sneak peak. Like I’ve said earlier on, it’s only going to be possible to manually identify one episode at a time in this version. The 1.8 update will change that and a bunch of other things. Anyway, it’s super simple to manually identify a TV show episode - just hit “Identify episode” in the context menu, enter the name of the correct show as well as season and episode number (if the automatically filled ones aren’t correct) and search for it. When you find it, just tap on the result and it’ll update the episode.

Theme support is coming up!
How do you want your Mizuu to look? With the upcoming release of 1.7.6, you’ll be able to choose between four cool application themes for Mizuu.
The colour themes are Blue, Dark, Green and Red. The blue theme is the one that’s currently used in Mizuu. I think they all look really cool, and I hope you’ll love the new themes. I’m certainly loving them
It naturally works on tablets as well:
Update: I’ve also just added a yellow theme, as requested
I’ve been making some progress…
I’ve been making some progress on TV shows in the last few days, as you can see from the screenshot above. You’ll notice a lot of new buttons and some design changes.
Design changes: I’m not sure whether to keep the current design (cover art on the left) or this one (cover art on the right). I’d like some feedback on this. Also, I’ve made the episode title larger and placed the release date information near the episode screenshot.
New buttons: I’ve added the following new buttons in TV shows:
- Watch online - Similar to the “Watch trailer” button in Movies, only this does not search for trailers but rather the title of any given show. I.e. it’ll return the first result on YouTube for “Chuck”, if you were to press the button in the above screenshot.
- Actors - Shows a new window with actor photos and names - both the real names and character names.
- Seasons - Shows a dialog that’ll allow you to refine the list of episodes to a single season. Hopefully this will make it easier for those of you with large collections.
- Backdrops - A backdrop browser that’ll let you download backdrops to your device and set them as the default backdrop. Similar to the backdrops browser in the Movies section of the application.
- Covers - A cover browser that’ll let you replace the current cover art with one of your own choice. It’s basically the same as pressing the cover art image, just a bit more obvious with a button.
The “Covers” button has also been added in Movies. You can still press the cover art photo to get the cover browser, of course.
Still got a lot of work left to do and school / work is killing me at the moment, but I’m hopeful I’ll have it ready before Christmas
Another day, another update
These version numbers are getting more and more funny looking by each release - version 1.7.4.2 has just hit Android Market, and you’ll find the change log right here:
- Added setting to toggle the glossy cover effect
- Fixed compatibility issue with some video players
- Fixed video player screen timeout issue
- Lots of widget improvements and new options
- Minor UI improvements
- Movie overview position no longer changes when updating cover art
It’s available on Android Market now, so ahead and update now on your tablet - it’s worth it, I promise…
Lite users will have to wait a bit.
The next update will be version 1.7.5. This is a bigger update and it’ll take significantly more time to get it done, but I’m sure many of you will appreciate it once it’s done.
I can also tell you that Mizuu now consists of 15,500 lines of code. Never expected it to reach this scale, but I’m glad that it has and that you’re all in it with me
Update: Some of you have been asking where the update is. I actually forgot to activate it when I uploaded it to Android Market, so it didn’t appear in Market. It should be fixed now
Another small update coming soon
I’ll be releasing a small update soon, which will introduce more widget improvements and fix a few minor issues.
The widget design will be slightly updated, will now feature the option of manually updating the contents and the battery usage has been dramatically decreased. The previous version could cause your tablet to run out of battery juice very quickly, and that’s the main reason why I’m releasing this now and not at a later point. The new widgets will update roughly every 15 minutes - compared to the 30 seconds of the current version. You can manually update them as often as you’d like though, so I don’t think anyone’s missing out on anything here.
Here’s a closer look at the updated widget for movies:
Other improvements include fixing the video player screen timeout issue and improving compatibility with other video players. The explanation is rather technical, so I’ll just leave you with the promise of Mizuu soon being able to play videos in all your installed video players - like it’s supposed to do.
I’ve also been working on some other minor improvements. One of them is the fact that the movie overview no longer resets to the starting position when you change the cover art of a movie. It’ll still do it if you re-identify the movie, but not if you only change the cover art. TV show support will be added at a later point, and hopefully I’ll be able to make it work if you re-identify movies as well.
This minor update also means that free users will have to wait a tiny bit more on getting the latest updates and new features. More frequent updates is one of the benefits of using the paid version!
