There’s a bug in Ice Cream Sandwich

… and although it’s not a severe bug, I’d like to mention it. It seems that the dialog theme in Ice Cream Sandwich is buggy and completely ignores Mizuu’s defined sizes when the width gets above a certain number (measured in a unit called dp). This means that some dialog windows - i.e. the backdrop and cover browsers - look rather weird on Ice Cream Sandwich devices. You’ll see an example of this above.

This is naturally not supposed to happen, and I’m working on a fix as we speak. Lots of changes have been made to Mizuu already and it’s really getting a lot better. I really can’t wait to get you all to try the new stuff I’ve got waiting :-)

Mizuu is ready for Ice Cream Sandwich and Galaxy Nexus

I’ve just published version 1.7.5 of Mizuu, and the biggest change is the fact that it now supports Ice Cream Sandwich and the Galaxy Nexus.

Some of the other planned changes have been postponed to ensure quick support for Ice Cream Sandwich, but they’ll be in version 1.8.0, which is the next release. Looking at my to-do list, this is going to be one heck of an update!

Here’s the change log for version 1.7.5:

  • Added actors in TV shows
  • Added backdrop browser in TV shows
  • Added Justin.tv video player
  • Added option to select cover art from gallery
  • Added support for Galaxy Nexus and Android 4.0
  • Added YouTube searches in TV shows
  • Improved video quality of videos from TED Talks
  • Layout changes
  • Minor bug fixes

As always, you can get the latest version via Android Market on your tablet or Galaxy Nexus or online. Mizuu will also pop up and let you know that a new version is available when you launch the application.

The free version will be updated in about a week. I really don’t have much time at the moment, and users of the paid version get updates first.

Please report any bugs you may encounter. I’d also love feedback on how it’s working for you on Galaxy Nexus, especially if there’s something that needs to be improved. I’m still a newbie at developing for two kinds of devices (tablets and phones) in one application package, so I can really use all the help I can get. Thanks!

Mizuu on Ice Cream Sandwich

Just received a Galaxy Nexus today and that means I can finally start working on Ice Cream Sandwich support (Android 4.0). Ice Cream Sandwich supports both phones and tablets, so the upcoming releases of Mizuu should support both kinds of devices.

I’ve only been working on this for a few hours, but I’ve been making some significant progress, as you can see from the screenshots above. I’m hoping to add Ice Cream Sandwich support in version 1.7.5. I haven’t got a tablet with Ice Cream Sandwich yet, so I can’t test that, but I can test it on the Galaxy Nexus.

Support for more devices with large screens (like 480 x 800 pixels) will be added in the future as well.

great Been waiting for an app like this for managing media on my tablet since I got it — Matt

Exactly what I was looking for and a bit more..... All the video players I've tried on my Lenovo K1 Ideapad just give you an ugly list with a screenshots of the video files. This separates movies and TV shows, adds cover art and uses IMDb for reviews and backdrops. When you hit play just select your favorite video player as default and you're set. — SaDiin

Best video app ever. This app really shows how great android is. TV shows support works even better than movies. Such an amazing developer — Tom

Awesome app! Loving this app on my tab, beautiful & fast UI. Great support from dev! — Johanna

The best at what it does. Haven't yet found an app similar to this, for me it's the best one at what it does. Of course there are still things that could be added, but the application is being worked upon heavily and the developer listens and responds to questions or requests very quickly, so I'm sure it'll get even better. Definitely five stars from me :) — Natan Žabkar

One of the prime Honeyomb apps. It's an amazing feat that a lone developer can do better work than most dev teams. I've followed this guy since his beta on XDA, and look at him and his app now. Perfectly showcases Android's ability to provide indie devs to show their talent by offering powerful tools and near-complete freedom to generate an incredible app such as this. Excellent support, fast and accurate movie/TV listing, beautiful interface, support for multiple codecs. Highly recommended. — JJ

Amazing!!! Looks great on my Transformer Prime!!! — Shawn

Should be 10 out of 5! This app defines what an app should be on Honeycomb, it is the kind of thing that makes having a tablet awesome! Also, the developer was fantastic in helping me resolve a problem, he responded within minutes (seconds?) of me sending him an email. Buy this app and tell your friends to do the same, you won't regret it! — amruthwo

The best movie/tv library app for android. Very beautiful and user friendly library app for your movies and television shows. Looks especially great on tablets or high resolution smartphones. — Christarius
